Annette Funicello was 13 years old when she was spotted by studio head Walt Disney dancing in an amateur production called Swan Lake in Fullerton California. To the displeasure among the Mickey Mouse Club co-stars, Funicello became a part of the cast in the show's first season. She was not even obliged to take part in auditions. Disney's instincts were correct Funicello soon became the most loved Mickey Mouse Club performer. The story she wrote for her own show Adventures in Dairyland also featured her. It was soon clear that Funicello needed to make records for her to maximize her talent as a teenager star, and while Annette was not a fan of singing, Disney engaged established arranger Tutti Camerata to guide her career as a recording artist. Funicello gradually grew comfortable with recording, and she enjoyed working together with Camerata, one of the very few arrangers in their 40s who were aware of the basic principles of the early rock. Annette Sings Anka was the third album, and probably one of the first albums to feature the rock music of singers as part of the repertoire. Funicello's debut film about a beach party, Beach Party was produced by AIP. Walt Disney personally looked over the scripts, and then gave his approval to each one to ensure that Annette to keep her pristine appearance.
